FORS Bronze & Silver · Construction logistics operator · Greater Manchester · 24 vehicles

FORS Bronze achieved in week 9 — first time, zero action points.

The challenge

A 24-vehicle construction logistics operator had been required to achieve FORS Silver within 16 weeks as a condition of a major Tier 1 contractor agreement. They had no existing compliance infrastructure — no SUD policy, no documented maintenance system, no fuel monitoring, no vehicle safety equipment on older vehicles. The operator had also never held any FORS accreditation.

What we did

J&JL Ltd began with a comprehensive gap analysis covering all v7.1 Bronze and Silver requirements simultaneously. We built the full documentation suite, sourced and specified compliant V6 equipment for vehicles not yet fitted, trained the management team, established fuel monitoring processes and conducted a full mock Bronze audit before the official audit. Immediately post-Bronze, we began Silver preparation.

The outcome

FORS Bronze achieved in week 9 — first time, zero action points. FORS Silver achieved in week 15 — within the client deadline and also first time. The operator retained the Tier 1 contractor agreement and subsequently used the FORS infrastructure to secure two further contracts specifying Silver as a minimum requirement.

H&S & Fleet Set-Up · New operator · Lancashire · 3 vehicles

Operator licence granted in week 8.

The challenge

A former employed driver was setting up his own transport business for the first time. He had the practical knowledge but no experience of the legislative framework — operator licence applications, financial standing requirements, Transport Manager arrangements, H&S obligations, tachograph compliance or driver management systems. He had a contract ready to sign and needed to be trading within ten weeks.

What we did

J&JL Ltd handled the operator licence application from start to finish — advising on financial standing evidence, Transport Manager arrangement, operating centre requirements and application documentation. Simultaneously, we built the complete H&S management system, tachograph compliance system, driver management system and maintenance records framework. We also advised on vehicle GB Type Approval requirements for 2026.

The outcome

Operator licence granted in week 8. First vehicle operating legally in week 9. The operator started trading with a complete compliance infrastructure in place — H&S policy, risk assessments, driver induction system, tachograph analysis process, PMI schedule and defect reporting. He subsequently engaged J&JL Ltd for FORS Bronze preparation six months later.

Tail Lift Training — TTT · Multi-site distribution operator · Yorkshire · 60+ drivers

All 60+ drivers certificated within 28 days.

The challenge

A multi-site retail distribution operator with over 60 drivers operating tail lift-equipped vehicles had no formal training records and no consistent training process. Following a tail lift incident — no serious injury, but a near-miss involving a pallet overload — their client's H&S team required evidence of comprehensive training within 30 days or the contract would be placed under review.

What we did

J&JL Ltd designed and delivered a Train the Trainer programme for four nominated depot managers — covering full theoretical knowledge, practical competence on all lift types in their fleet, instructional techniques and competence assessment methods. We also delivered direct operator training to all 60+ drivers across the operator's three sites within the 30-day window, prioritising the depot where the incident had occurred.

The outcome

All 60+ drivers certificated within 28 days. Four in-house trainers qualified to deliver ongoing training independently. Client satisfied training requirement met — contract retained. The operator now has a sustainable in-house training capability that eliminated their reliance on external training for ongoing driver onboarding.

ISO 9001 Certification · Pharmaceutical logistics carrier · North West · 12 vehicles

ISO 9001:2015 certification achieved month 5 — first time, UKAS accredited, zero major non-conformances.

The challenge

A cold chain pharmaceutical carrier had been required by a new pharmaceutical client to achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification and GDP compliance within six months as a condition of the distribution agreement. The operator had some informal quality processes but no documented QMS, no UKAS certification and no GDP documentation whatsoever.

What we did

J&JL Ltd conducted simultaneous ISO 9001 and GDP gap analyses. We built the full QMS — quality manual, process documentation, quality objectives, internal audit programme — and the complete GDP documentation suite including Quality Manual, full SOPs, Quality Agreement template, vehicle qualification documentation and temperature monitoring system. We liaised directly with the UKAS-accredited certification body throughout.

The outcome

ISO 9001:2015 certification achieved month 5 — first time, UKAS accredited, zero major non-conformances. GDP documentation approved by the pharmaceutical client's quality team in month 4. Distribution agreement signed. The operator went from zero documented quality management to dual ISO 9001 and GDP certification within the client's deadline.
